Ever wondered what makes the winning team come out on top?
Here’s why last year's winners ‘Farmer on Board’ stood out from the crowd at the 2007/08 competition:
- Innovation
First and foremost the idea for ‘Farmer On Board’ was an original and innovative idea. Nothing of its kind had ever been produced in Ireland before. With accidents and deaths on Irish farms each year an important issue, ‘Farmer On Board’ was a new idea designed to prevent such tragic deaths through educating young children about being safe on the farm.
- Going that extra mile
Although each of the team members had a background in farming and knowledge of this area, they still had to push themselves a bit out of their comfort zone to bring the idea to life. This meant lots of extra research and hard work.
- Market & product research
The students were very thorough in how they researched both their potential market and their product. This included talking to agricultural organisations such as Teagasc and board game manufacturers about how best to develop their product.
- Marketing & promotion
The team members spent a lot of time making sure that their product was marketed correctly. This included contacting Farmer’s Journals and doing interviews with local radio stations to get their message out there.
- Motivation & self- belief
What really stood out with the ‘Farmer On Board’ team was their unwavering belief that their product could be a success – not only for the SEAs, but as a proper business idea. This self-belief motivated the group to keep exploring different ways to make their idea work.
